Hiding in bed or preparing to job search?

Sheets hiding

Are you ready to put your best foot forward to get out and get a job?

Are you nodding vigorously thinking about the great CV you put together for a part time job when you started university? Or thinking about how you’ve got a LinkedIn profile - not that you've looked at it for a while? Are you nodding vigorously thinking of that great outfit you have sorted for your first interview, along with a number of clever answers?Browbeaten at computer

Are you not even bothering to nod vigorously because you are too busy applying for heaps of online jobs, expecting a recruiter will read your generic CV and give you the job?

Or do you simply want to hide under your sheets whenever job search is mentioned?

Well guys if you think you’re ready because you have a 3 year old CV and your outfit is sorted – you’re only 50% there. And if you’re still waiting to hear back from the dozens and dozens of recruiters you’ve applied to online, then be prepared to still be looking for a job in 2021!

And if you’re hiding under your sheets, then your outfit will definitely be a disgrace even if your CV is not.

The reality is that you will only stand out in the job search process if you have covered off two things. Firstly, your CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile and elevator pitch need to be up to date and fresh.

Secondly, you also have to do a bit of work on how you present yourself – and I’m not talking about your outfit.

A Match Ready Workshop for you

“Being job ready is much more than getting your CV and online profiles up to date and being able to interview effectively,” says Student Employability & Careers manager Serena Tiaiti.

Feet skipping in unisonThat is why Employability and Careers run Match Ready workshops -  a half a day of intensive sessions that include a alumni panel offering up-to-the minute advice and insight about how they landed their jobs and what it is like in the workplace. This includes discussions on how to talk to employers and how to network – all from people who have recently succeeded in finding a good job after leaving AUT.

“Match Ready helps you start to think about your strengths and how to articulate them to an employer. It highlights how you must develop a good understanding of roles and skills needed for them, and about having the right attitude and professionalism. That is what will give you an edge over other job seekers,” says Serena.

Our next Match Ready workshops are running over the coming two Wednesdays - September 9 (online) and 16 (on campus).
