With only one week to go until Semester 2 commences, our team is finalising our plans for over +100 employers to visit AUT.
Have you heard of employer presentations? It’s where employers come to AUT to chat about job opportunities. They offer insights about their industry or profession and talk about their company and the roles they have on offer, including graduate programmes, internships, co-op and work experience. They also explain the skills and attributes they look for in potential employees.
You can do this whether or not you have any idea of what you want to do. There’s nothing wrong with exploring your options. Sometimes you may discover something you didn’t even know.
Employer presentations generally last an hour with plenty of time for questions. Often an AUT alumni will come along to chat about their experiences as a new employee and insider knowledge on what the company looks for. It’s good to hear what the transition from uni to the real world is like.
So what’s in it for you when you’ve got a million other things to do?
One of the biggest tips we hear from employers is that they like people who are proactive. So why not go to an employer presentation? It doesn't matter whether you are a 1st year, or in your final year and gearing up towards graduation or looking for a work experience placement. You never know what you'll learn or gain from giving an hour of your life.
You generally meet the people doing the hiring. They are taking time out of their day to visit AUT to talk to you and if you can get in front of them and introduce yourself, you are one step ahead of the game.
Sometimes the organisation even provides food and drinks and - honestly - what’s better than free food?
After all, on average, people now spend 50 minutes on Facebook every day - that is the equivalent of almost eight hours a week! How about dedicating some of that time to investing in yourself and your future possibilities by attending a couple of employer presentations?
So how do I find out about these employer events?
The answer: read below. 👇👇👇
